ATTENDING OPEN HOUSES IN MARIN COUNTY

So what’s the advantage of going to an open house in Marin County? First and foremost, it’s a convenient way to tour a property without making any sort of formal arrangement. As a potential buyer, all you need to do is show up when an open house is taking place, walk in, and see what that particular property has to offer. In most cases, the listing agent, or an associate of the listing agent, will be there to show the home or answer any questions you may have, however, keep in mind that if you’re viewing an open house at a for-sale-by-owner property, chances are you’ll be interacting with the owner rather than a professional real estate agent.

TIPS FOR ATTENDING AN OPEN HOUSE

While anybody can just show up to an open house and walk through a home, if you’re a serious buyer who might seriously be considering making an offer, there’s a few things you’ll definitely want to keep in mind. Here’s a look at just a few of our open house tips:

  • Show Up Late. While it’s always good practice to be early for just about everything, that goes out the window when it comes to open houses. Stop in during the last hour and take a quick glance at the sign-in sheet. If you see a lot of names, that tells you there’s a lot of interest and the market is competitive.
  • Bring Your Real Estate Agent. While it’s not required you bring representation, keep in mind the agent running the open house works for the seller—not you. Having your agent around will not only make you feel more comfortable, but he or she can also make sure you don’t disclose too much information about your budget and other key elements to a home search.
  • Be Diligent. If you’re taking the time to walk through a home, make sure to do a thorough check. Peek inside the closets, check the water pressure, walk around the backyard, and always remember to glance over to the neighbors house to get a better idea of who might be living next to you.
