A large Marin County community that around 52,000 people call home, Novato is easily one of the more densely populated cities in the North Bay region. Located about 10 miles northwest of nearby San Rafael and only around 30 miles north of San Francisco, Novato provides home owners easy access to plenty of amenities and attractions, making it an excellent choice for your next place to live.

Although the city of Novato, CA offers potential home buyers a relatively close proximity to the big business of San Francisco, many locals actually work here as well because of its diverse mix of corporate headquarters, large retailers, and modern technology and biotech companies. The Novato Unified School District is also one of the city’s largest employers, which includes San Marin High School, Novato High School, and Novato Charter School. Because Novato covers such a broad area, and because so many more people happen to live here, the local real estate landscape is much more diverse than in many other Marin County communities. Homes for sale in Novato range from quaint condos and townhomes to single-family homes of all shapes and sizes. Attached condos and townhomes throughout Novato can actually be somewhat affordable, often listing between $350,000 and $500,000. In general, single-family homes also have slightly lower listing prices, with some homes even starting as low as $500,000, which can often be hard to find in affluent Marin County, California.

Believe it or not, Novato’s history dates all the way back to 1300 when the Miwok Native American indian tribe settled in villages located at the base of Mount Burdell. Today, much of that history is still celebrated in town, specifically at the Marin Museum of American Indians and the beautiful Olompali State Park.

As the northern most city in all of Marin County, Novato has a much larger footprint than many of its southern counterparts that are closer to San Francisco. In all, Novato encompasses 28 square miles and much of that has a quiet rural atmosphere that’s filled with rolling hills, dense forests, and tons of open space for locals to enjoy. Two public golf courses are also found int he Novato community, while the 139-acre Stafford Lake Park continue to be one of its major attractions for visitors, not to mention one of its best outdoor amenities that provides all kinds of great recreational opportunities.
