Although the tiny community of Muir Beach, CA is only home to a few hundred people, it’s spectacular natural landscape seems larger than life. Nestled along Highway 1 almost in the middle of Mt. Tamalpais State Park, mountains, water, and wide open green spaces literally span as far as the eye can see from just about any point in Muir Beach, which is one of only many appealing characteristics about calling this unincorporated Marin County community home.

While it may not seem like it while you’re here, the bustling streets of San Francisco are only 16.5 miles from Muir Beach, allowing residents and home owners here to be just minutes from world-class shopping, fine dining, and everything else that makes San Fransisco great. But even despite its small size, don’t sell Muir Beach short in terms of fun things to within the community limits. Two of the most beautiful beaches you’ll find anywhere in California happen to be located in Muir Beach, with the actual Muir Beach being one of them, while the various national parks and green spaces that surround the Muir Beach community also provide plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities that range from hiking and mountain biking to fishing, boating, and more. Outside of actually being outside, though, things to do in Muir Beach basically revolve around the historic Pelican Inn, which is a charming bed and breakfast that also has an Old English Pub inside, or the Muir Beach Community Center, which is a rustic lodge-like facility that offers a variety of classes, craft fairs, and can even be rented out for larger social functions.
With a population of just 300+ residents and a location that only has about 150 homes, the Muir Beach real estate market is really quite limited to say the least. And because most people who live in Muir Beach call this gorgeous waterfront community home full-time, it’s actually not very often you see a home pop onto the market. In addition, most homes located in Muir Beach basically hover around the core “downtown” part of town, mostly because the entire surrounding area is connected to the protected Mt. Tamalpais State Park. If you do get lucky and find something listed, though, chances are it’s a fairly large single-family home with ample living space, plenty of privacy, and absolutely breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountainous landscape.
